If you’ve ever struggled with an inner critic, and those doubts and fears have kept you from staying focused on your goals....
And if you've tried to set New Year's resolutions that you gave up on in February, you may have wondered if there’s a better way.
... Or perhaps you’ve heard about art journaling, but didn’t understand how that could help you evolve into the next best version of yourself.
...Or maybe you already know how joyful it is to have a private art journal practice, but are looking for ideas or want to learn how to use it as a self-development tool.
Developing an art journal practice allows you to have fun staying mindful of your life purpose, your intentions and your goals while at the same time unlocking greater creativity within you.
Whether it’s your dream to become a better artist or you just want to add more creativity to your life to help you unwind and relax, I want to teach you to tap into this powerful process.
It's a great question. An art journal means different things to different people. For some, it could be a very simple journal with colored pens and for others it looks like it's really an artist sketch book with no words all all and everything in between.
My own art journals have evolved over the years but I've always found it most fulfilling to use the art journal to create art out of words but this is more than just a sketchbook - it's a manifestation process.
In case you don't know me, I’m Miriam Schulman, founder of The Inspiration Place. I teach people just like you how to reconnect with their creativity!
Whether you're an old pro or haven't picked up a paintbrush since college, I’m here to help you LET GO while learning the techniques to create your own expressive beauty.
In 2013, I decided to find out what all the fuss was about with art journaling and once I started, I became completely addicted! Not only has experimenting with materials and techniques in an art journal helped me become a better artist, but using an art journal to set my goals, intentions and get in touch with my feelings have been a key to living courageously.
For example, it was inside my art journal where I first declared to start a podcast and that written commitment to myself has been the greatest driver in keeping myself accountable.
Since I started working in an art journal, it has become one of my most favorite things to teach. My art journals have been published in numerous issues of Art Journal magazine but what I'm most proud of is that I get to share what I know with people like you.
“I'd never heard of art journaling before, but I had an inkling of what it was. I signed up for Painting With Words because I wanted something to spark my creativity in my art and I journal all of the time. I needed inspiration to keep on trying to get better. I loved listening to Miriam’s positivity.. She’s so upbeat and is always encouraging us. It really helped me much more than just art journaling, but in life and art. I also learned about all the mediums and how to use them, plus all of the wonderful things you can do to make your art journal your own. Miriam Schulman’s classes helped me believe in myself again.”
~Deb Lund from Billings, MT
“I find art journaling therapeutic. Journaling is a deep stress reliever, because it can be a way of processing emotions and letting go of heaviness. I enjoy the creative energy you radiate in your classes. Glad I discovered you!"
~Tricia Brooks from Houston, TX

"Miriam teaches all the concepts clearly and her videos are great. I am always able to complete the activities easily. Even the supply lists are clear and linked to sellers. Art Journaling was the first way I was able to have fun with materials and not worry so much if it turned out perfectly."
~Deb Eastwood from Waukesha, WI
“I have struggled with consistently creating art, mostly due to my own critical, perfectionistic attitudes surrounding my art. Painting With Words looked like the perfect way to break free and make art fun again. I wanted to have the excitement I had as a kid surrounding art. I love the videos! I revisit them whenever I need guidance and inspiration. I also get great encouragement from the private Facebook group. I'm so happy to be a part of it. Her posts are always good, and I love the posting of others’ art and their comments, it is so helpful and encouraging. From the bottom of my heart, this art connection has been a lifesaver for me. I am so grateful for the Inspiration Place and all the beautiful, supportive artists I am now connected with."
~Luana Gerhardt from Forestville, CA
“This class gave me the springboard to make art journaling an ongoing practice. I truly enjoy Schulman’s teaching style and her personality comes through in the videos - really enjoyable and non-threatening or intimidating way to learn. I can't wait to see what else she comes up with for future classes. I love her teaching style. You can go at your own pace and she is always very encouraging about just jumping in and trying it - quieting that inner critic. I now consistently do something every day, even if it's just starting a couple backgrounds to use later. I am hooked!"

Art journaling is very relaxing, and Miriam is a great teacher. Also, the Inspiration Place website was designed very well, so it's easy to navigate among the class videos, etc."
